White House Memo

First the Downing Street Memo, now Channel 4's exposé of the White House Memo:

The Hobgoblin and the Poodle in a pre-war meet, Jan 2003, agreeing over military action on March 10th, irrespective of any fiddly UN resolution authorizing use of force.

Seems that Hob' and Pood' discussed the possibility of getting UN support, but Hob had decided to go to war anyway, so what the heck: The US would "put its full weight behind efforts to get another resolution and would 'twist arms' and 'even threaten'. But ... if ultimately we failed, military action would follow anyway.''

Quoth Blair, that he was "solidly with the President and ready to do whatever it took to disarm Saddam."

Folks being a leetle slow on the uptake, but encouraging coverage so far by

  • Good ol' USA Today
  • Even my old pals at Xinhua
  • The Independent suitably deadpan on the
    hilarious fake UN plane
  • The sleuthing Scotsman dour as ever.
  • Yahoo catching up.
  • The Nation: dubs Pincus's front-page Washington Post piece "must reading".

Meanwhile, even as I type, KUOW is broadcasting a delightful morning's divertissement  of the hapless Attorney General's grilling over the Goblin's authorization of warrantless surveillance of the nation.

Some delicious accents among his inquisitors, poor chap.
