Harry-Kiri

Proboscis journo duped me with a fake story of a Potter fan topping himself after a Half-blood plot leak.

I see *now* that it must be fiction. Curses!

Never mind: good excuse to shove up a pic of la glam Rowling and toast her $36 million sales for publication day alone.

In fact, here are some more precise figures:

  • Scholastic report US sales of 6.9 million Half-Blood Prince in the first 24 hours, and note they had already ordered (and started delivering) a reprint of 2.7 million copies.
  • Amazon's US pre-orders were over 919,000 copies.
  • Barnes & Noble sold 1.3 million copies in the first 48 hours, including pre-orders and online sales.
  • Borders sold 850,000 copies in the first 24 hours, and over a million copies in the first 48 hours on sale.
  • Separately, Listening Library report sales of 165,000 of its CD and cassette tape versions in the first 48 hours, with CD sales outnumbering tapes 2-1.
  • UK end, Bookscan tallied 2.01 million copies sold in the first day.
  • Wal-mart's Asda report sales of 300,000 copies on opening day
  • Tesco claim sales of 400,000
  • Summary: Most early figures range between 13 - 20 % ahead of Potter 5.

  • Comments:
It's a parody, right? Yep, it's gotta be a parody. A tasteless one, but a parody nonetheless...

Damn! blast! I let my optimism cloud my thinking. I should have known that a man with a conk that size would let me down. Yes, dammit - i now see that it almost certainly *is* a spoof.

Curses. I was feeling rather cheered by the whole launch: the ever-foxy Ms Rowling making a cool $36 mill on day of publication, topped off by this nutter doing himself in.

Now I see that I am the gull.
