I'm sitting in the Pavilion movie emporium waiting to see pater Bernie Mac put paid to pretty boy Kutcher's advances on his daughter, the divine Zoe Saldana, and the pre-show warm-up includes a sage saying from Den-Zel Washington as Man on Fire Creasey.

The scriptwriters apparently gave him the brilliantly original line about revenge being "a meal best served cold".

Well, it's not much more original than what's been around:

  • Famèd 19th century proverb: "Revenge is a dish that can be eaten cold"
  • De Laclos' 1782 masterpiece Les Liasons Dangereuses: "La vengeance est un plat qui se mange froid."
