How to Snatch an Expiring Domain

Mike Davidson saving us much heartache and time.

To paraphrase from his superb blog:

[Mike] recently found himself wanting to register a domain owned by someone else. The domain was set to expire in a week, and Mike figured there was a decent chance the owner wouldn’t be renewing it.

Upon consulting the WhoIs registry, MD saw the guy was a bit of a domain shark and didn’t seem to be around anymore.

So he placed a backorder through GoDaddy and assumed that was all that was needed.

During the weeks that followed, he learned a lot about the domain expiration process.

Two and a half months and a bunch of cash later, Mike's the proud owner of a shiny new domain.

Read the whole of Mike's article for an explanation of the domain expiration process and what's needed to work it to our advantage.
